Earth Advantage, Inc. – Remodeling Program Manager

Earth Advantage Inc., an Oregon 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, is the premier provider of green building solutions in a carbon constrained world. We certify homes as a third-party verifier for both the ENERGY STAR® and LEED for Homes® programs, as well as for Earth Advantage’s proprietary residential, commercial, communities and remodeling programs. In addition, Earth Advantage, Inc., provides green design and consulting services, conducts education & training seminars, and is a key contributor to the development of green building standards. We are well established with over 400 builders, remodelers, and sponsors throughout Oregon, Southwest Washington and Northern California, and licensed partners in the seven states of New England.

Earth Advantage, Inc. has an immediate need for a Remodeling (EAR) Program Manager that would be responsible for developing and piloting a new verification program for existing homes. The EAR Program Manager will work with other EA staff and partners to develop the methodology, tools, and business model for this program. A key deliverable of the program includes the design and deployment of an Energy Performance Certificate which will comprise ratings for both energy efficiency and carbon footprint for the home.

The successful candidate will be expected to design the program, and oversee field data collection, carry out energy usage analysis and energy modeling, and prepare the EPC audit report containing recommended scope of work for energy efficiency improvements. This position reports to the Executive Director of Earth Advantage, Inc.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Program Manager should have a minimum of 2 years experience independently conducting comprehensive energy audits of multifamily or single family residential units and a demonstrated understanding of building science. The candidate should also possess strong remodeling or construction experience and expertise. Familiarity with software energy modeling tools such as TREAT, Remrate and iRate is required.

• Create, deploy, and administer pilot phase of remodeling/EPC program.
• Develop and maintain program protocols and procedures, including an administration and verification/rating processes for the EAR program and EPC.
• Lead and manage continuing development of standards including future standards.
• Develop, organize and coordinate logistics for remodeler & EPC trainings.
• Conduct quality assurance activities to verify quality and consistency of EAR and EPC results.
• Maintain archive for all EAR and EPC results and develop reports on the program.
• Oversee a technical team of up to four members.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with strategic partners, builders, clients, public agencies, product vendors and conservation programs.

Essential Qualities and Skills

• Demonstrated experience with energy modeling and energy efficiency systems.
• Technical experience related to green building design and construction, technologies and materials.
• Knowledge of the environmental, economic and social benefits of green remodeling.
• Strong sense of ownership and pride in work products.
• Highly collaborative nature.
• Excellent writing and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of building systems including lighting technologies, building envelope, mechanical systems (particularly heating systems), and combustion science.
• Working knowledge of technical and cost savings analysis and reporting.
• Proficiency in conducting in-field energy assessments, submetering, lighting, technology, DSM.
• Knowledge of energy modeling software, especially Remrate, or TREAT/iRate/other.
• Experience with renewable energy a plus.
• Knowledge of energy conservation principles and techniques; energy data analysis; research skills and experience.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment.
• Good communication skills and ability to interact well with others in the field and in an office environment.
• May be required to climb ladders and bend, stoop and crawl in confined spaces in order to complete energy assessments as required by the stipulations of the job.
Qualifications
• Four-year university degree from an accredited college or university degree in related field (e.g., architecture, construction technology, mechanical engineering, or civil engineering) and a demonstrated interest in energy conservation.
• Minimum of two years experience in multifamily and/or single family building energy engineering; three to five years experience preferred.
• Proven organizational, planning, project management, staff management and reporting skills.
• Proven leadership and management skills.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management.
• Good organizational skills with ability to manage projects from initiation to conclusion while maintaining focus and attention to detail.
