Objectives

Decreasing personal carbon footprints is getting easier with the newest technology and reminders of old stand-bys. I want to help spread that word through public relations and marketing. I walk the walk, so talking the talk is simple.

Employment experience:
September 2006 – present: Research/Database updating, Monterey Institute for Technology and Education: I am adding to and updating MITE’s database through conference lists and internet research. This work requires attention to detail and the ability to “dig” into websites. I’ve also conducted a seo project.
March 2005 – present: Alpaca farmer, Westcliffe, CO. I raise and breed alpacas with a few other four-legged and two-legged creatures thrown in. My twenty-four alpacas reside with four guard dogs. I also have chickens, turkeys and goats. Managing a farm and livestock requires planning ahead and thinking on your feet in an emergency. It also requires a sense of humor. In this day and age, even a farmer can be high tech. I’ve created and publicized my own website, www.springtimefarms.com.
September 2005 – November 2007: Reporter, The Wet Mountain Tribune, Westcliffe, CO: I jumped back into the news business with some trepidation, but found this newspaper to be rewarding and challenging. I wrote up to 15 stories a week on a deadline. My writing evolved and my knowledge of the community increased.
April 2001-March 2005: Travel, USA. I left MSNBC intent on seeing the country by RV. I traveled America for nearly five years enjoying unimaginable beauty (Redwood National Forest), learning about natural wonders (Yellowstone National Park), and trying my hand at different jobs (selling Christmas trees and picking apples). This time left me with wonderful memories, good friends and a sense of peace. It also led me to alpacas, my passion.
October 1996 – April 2001: MSNBC, Secacus, NJ. As an MSNBC tape producer I was responsible for overseeing five associate producers. My duties included making sure they had the video they needed, that they got it to air on time, and that breaking news video made it to air ASAP, often within a minute of being received. I was “on-air” for three hours every day. I worked with senior and line producers determining what video was available and appropriate. I interacted with the news desk, satellite operations and the intake department ensuring the video was fed, via satellite, into the building. I also contacted the archives department regularly to get file footage.
For the first two years I was an associate producer, then a producer, in the intake department. I kept track of feeds and logged incoming video. Keeping the tape producer informed of these feeds was essential.
As a 24-hour news operation, MSNBC is deadline oriented and extremely fast-paced and busy. Working with others and juggling many things at once were a daily experience. I lived up to the challenge.

Volunteer experience:
I was the High Mountain Hay Fever Bluegrass Festival marketing committee for two seasons, I’ve written and recorded the community calendar for Westcliffe’s local radio station, and I am on the local animal rescue’s board of directors and I foster dogs.
