The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized 34 WasteWise program partners for significant waste reduction and recycling achievements.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized 34 WasteWise program partners for significant waste reduction and recycling achievements. WasteWise is a voluntary partnership that promotes waste reduction and materials reuse and recycling.

This year, the U.S. Postal Service-Northeast Area, Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc., and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control were inducted into the WasteWise Hall of Fame. Their continued commitment to progressive waste reduction activities earned them the highest honor awarded to WasteWise partners.

Now in its eleventh year, WasteWise is a voluntary partnership that promotes reducing, reusing, and recycling waste. WasteWise partners design their own waste reduction programs to achieve both environmental and economic benefits that suit their individual needs. Partners now number over 1,400, with 250 endorsers. Through their combined waste reduction activities, partners have eliminated more than 65 million metric tons of carbon equivalent--roughly the same as keeping about 52 million cars off the road for one year.

The awards were handed out at the 2005 WasteWise Annual Conference, held in Arlington, Va., on Oct. 24-25. A complete list of honorees is available online.
