Act Now Brings Its Sustainability Skills to Publicis Groupe

Act Now, which made its name in large part for its work on Wal-Mart's sustainability initiatives, was founded in 1998 by Werbach, who is currently serving on the international board of Greenpeace and in the past served as the youngest-ever president of the Sierra Club.

Act Now will take on the Saatchi & Saatchi name, and will likely add its roster of clients to Saatchi's stable. Act Now's expertise will also help Publicis Groupe better steer its clients down the path of sustainability at a time when companies are increasingly looking for new and innovative ways to go green.

"Our motivation in acquiring Act Now ... is not only to better help our clients communicate about the important issue of sustainability," said Maurice Levy, Chairman and CEO of Publicis Groupe said, but to also "allow them to understand these issues in a strategic way and help them find real solutions adapted to their needs, while communicating in an efficient and effective way."

The acquisition further underlines just how mainstream interest in sustainable practices has become. Publicis, with 44,000 employees in 104 countries, will make big waves by encouraging more companies to move toward greener operations. In a statement, Werbach called Saatchi & Saatchi a place where "world-changing global communications meets deep sustainability expertise and passion. This is about taking the vision, mission and passion of the people of Act Now to the talents, process, scale, impact and creativity of the people of Saatchi & Saatchi."
