Energy Star Honors Scores of Firms for Efficiency

<p>Whirlpool, Ford, Johnson Controls, Jones Lang LaSalle, Sears Holdings, Lowe's, Kohl's and Servidyne are among the many companies recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Program this year for making strides in energy efficiency.</p>

Whirlpool, Ford, Johnson Controls, Jones Lang LaSalle, Sears Holdings, Lowe's, Kohl's and Servidyne are among the many companies recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Program this year for making strides in energy efficiency.

The Energy Star Program hosts its annual awards ceremony on March 18 and will release the full list of honorees in time for the event. In the meantime, dozens of firms are announcing that they are recipients.

The awards program recognizes efficiency efforts at three levels. The top honors go to companies and organizations in the Award for Sustained Excellence category, followed by the Partner of the Year category and the Award for Excellence.

The companies announcing their awards today include:

Energy Star Award for Sustained Excellence Winners

  • Advantage IQ --The subsidiary of Avista Corp. will receive its fourth consecutive award in this category at this year's ceremony.
  • Ford Motor Company -- The automaker receives its third consecutive Sustained Excellence award this year and its fifth consecutive honor as an Energy Star partner.
  • Lowe's -- The firm becomes the first retail winner in this category, making eight consecutive times the company has been recognized with an annual Energy Star award. They include four Partner of the Year awards.
  • Hines -- The international real estate firm receives its third award in this category this year, making the sixth time it has been honored as an Energy Star partner.
  • ITW Food Equipment Group - North America -- The firm will accept its first award in this category this year. It received Partner of the Year awards in 2008 and 2009.
  • Pella Corporation -- The firm, an Energy Star partner since 1999, receives its second award in this category.
  • Servidyne Inc. -- The demand response and real estate company receives its fourth consecutive award in the category this year and its eighth as an Energy Star partner.
  • Whirlpool --The honor marks Whirlpool's fifth consecutive award in the category, the company's 11th top Energy Star award and its 22nd Energy Star award overall -- more than any other appliance manufacturer.


Energy Star Partner of the Year Winners

  • Andersen Corporation -- An Energy Star partner since its inception, the firm's earlier honors include being recognized as a Partner of the Year in 1999 and being named a Manufacturer Ally of the Year in 1998 and 1999.
  • Bosch Home Appliances -- Bosch receives the Partner of the Year award for the second time in row. The firm received the Award for Excellence in 2007 and 2008.
  • JELD-WEN -- An Energy Star partner since 1998, the window and door manufacturer also received a Partner of the Year award in 2003.
  • Johnson Controls Inc. -- An Energy Star partner for 18 years, JCI has been recognized by the EPA and Energy Star several times, which now include being a three-time winner as a Partner of the Year.
  • Jones Lang LaSalle -- An Energy Star partner since 1998, this year's honor is the second in this category for the commercial real estate services giant.
  • Kohl's -- An Energy Star partner for more than 12 years, Kohl's operates 400 Energy Star locations.
  • Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Government -- The program recognized the city, an Energy Star partner since 2007, for its 2009 Kilowatt Crackdown -- a joint effort by local government and commercial real estate firms that is run by the Louisville Energy Alliance.
  • Manitowoc Foodservice -- The firm, which designs, manufactures and supplies food and beverage equipment, has been an Energy Star partner since 2001.
  • Nissan -- The company has been an Energy Star partner since 2006.
  • Panasonic Home & Environment Company -- The firm has been an Energy Star partner since 2001. Previous awards include Matsushita Electric/Panasonic being named a Partner of the Year in 1999 and Panasonic receiving the award in 2001, 2003 as well as an Award for Excellence in 2005.  Home Electronics Partner of the Year
  • Sears Holdings - Named a Partner of the Year in Retail for 2010, Sears Holdings earlier Energy Star honors include the Award for Excellence in 2004 through 2007 and Partner of the Year in 2001 and 2003.


Energy Star Award for Excellence Winners

  • KB Home - An Energy Star partner since 2001, KB Home also received an Award for Excellence in 2009.


The EPA established the Energy Star program in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through increased energy efficiency.

This year's honorees were selected from the more than 17,000 companies and organizations that participate in the program. Eighty-nine companies, local governments and public entities received awards in 2009.
