Cradle to Cradle Training Comes to Asian Textile Makers

The Cradle to Cradle philosophy of creating safe products that can be reused over and over again is being brought to Taiwan in order to target some materials at their manufacturing source.

McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC), creator of the Cradle to Cradle (C2C) framework, which also calls for using renewable energy, water efficiency and closed-loop life cycles of products, has partnered with the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI).

MBDC now acts as a C2C certification consultant — the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute was created to oversee C2C development — and will train the TTRI on how to help manufacturers go through the C2C certification process, assess materials and audit facilities.

The TTRI will test textiles applying for C2C certification, provide sustainability-related outreach and training to Asian manufacturers and conduct research to improve C2C certification.

The intent is to apply C2C concepts to textiles manufactured in Taiwan and Asia, which would in turn provide C2C certified materials to companies that use those textiles.
