Pharmaceuticals Outscore Other Sectors in New Climate Scorecard

Why Pharma still has work to do...

Although I am glad to see the pharma industry has progressed, I do take issue with the fact that the water contamination due to the ever increasing presence of pharmaceuticals is not accounted for. All Great Lakes water now contain anti-depressants, traces of heart medications and so on - the effect of which will require more advanced water treatment, which requires more energy to operate, thereby increasing municipal carbon output. Pharmaceutical companies have not been forthcoming with the kinds of ingredients used in their products, further complicating the identification of what is in millions of people's drinking water.

Transparency and accountability around substances that end up in water bodies will go a long way to prove the industry's commitment to corporate responsibility.
