Choose Green Report: Energy-Efficient Indoor Lighting

October 1997

Indoor lighting is the one area that’s failed to keep up with energy-efficient improvements in American homes, says Green Seal. But rather than address consumers, this report focuses on fixed luminaries installed by builders, making the case that both builders and buyers benefit when the former take the initiative to specify efficient lighting. Lighting concepts and terminologies are covered in a way that is accessible to the lay person but, hopefully, helps the professional see the light as well. The report provides shining examples of upgrades in “high-use” areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways. Selection criteria are compiled in an easy-to-read chart format, followed by a list of recommended fluorescent lighting products and a contact list.
