Patricia DeMarco
Patricia DeMarco has been a Rachel Carson scholar since 2005, with service as the Executive Director of the Rachel Carson Homestead Association and as the Director of the Rachel Carson Institute at Chatham University. She writes and speaks extensively on the environmental ethic of Rachel Carson and her relevance to modern times. DeMarco was trained as a biologist with a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh and post-doctoral research appointments at Yale University and Boston University School of Medicine with a focus on environmental mutagens and mutation mechanisms. She has practiced in the field of energy and environmental policy since 1975 in both public and private sectors.
Her significant positions have included: Commissioner of the Regulatory Commission of Alaska, Policy Advisor in the Office of Policy and Management in the State of Connecticut, Executive Director of the Connecticut Siting Council. She has held the position of President of the Connecticut Energy Roundtable, which was sold to E-Cubed Corporation, an energy trading company; Manager of Resource Development for the Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative, and as President of the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation. Her recent academic positions include Assistant Dean of the College of Business and Public Policy at the University of Alaska Anchorage, and adjunct appointments at the University of Pittsburgh, Chatham University and Duquesne University.
